Hunting area
In the county of Norfolk, our local partner Ben manages several areas with a total area of 6,000 hectares. Most deer species like fallow, roes and red deer can be found there, but he has specialised particularly in muntjac and Chinese water deer.
When asked what it is exactly that makes these two small exotics so attractive to hunters, he doesn’t have to think for long. ‘Even for seasoned stalkers, both muntjac and the Chinese water deer are challenging quarries. Both are slightly larger than a Springer Spaniel and constantly on the move. They are always on their guard. Yet we often get closer than 50 metres, those are truly blood-curdling stalks.’
This all adds to the charm of this special hunt: ‘You have to work for it, ‘good sports’ is what we call it. So that you look back with a satisfied feeling on a beautiful adventure.’
Hunting season
Muntjacs can be hunted all year round, although pregnant or lactating does are not targeted. It has to remain a sportsmanlike chase. The hunting season for Chinese water deer begins on 1 November and ends on 31 March.
Those who want to hang their mounted trophy on the wall should not wait until the last moment. From 15 March onwards, the Chinese water deer start shedding, and not just a little. For a nice shoulder mount, it is best to set a hunting date before mid-March.
Travel details
Even after Brexit, England is still easily accessible. After leaving the ferry with your own car, it is another hour and a half to Norwich. If you travel by plane, you will get there not only faster but also cheaper. There are daily direct flights from Amsterdam to Norwich airport that get you there within an hour. Our partner will be waiting for you.
There are several suitable accommodations close to the hunting ground. Charming hotels inside or outside the city, B&Bs with excellent cuisine and even a luxury guesthouse with spa and sauna. We are happy to advise you on the various possibilities.
A rifle can be rented for a reasonable price. That saves administration and unnecessary delays at customs. Of course, each gun is equipped with a suppressor and a good scope. We also provide shooting sticks.
The standard hunt is three days with morning and evening outings. Small groups of 2-3 hunters are ideal, but individuals are also welcome.
