The south-west of England has a solid reputation when it comes to big roebucks. At a 2.5-hour drive from busy London, you can still experience the typical English countryside in Somerset. Nature has the upper hand here with picturesque, rolling landscapes. In addition to cheddar cheese and cider, Somerset also has a third trump card for hunters: big roebucks.
Together with Dorset and Wiltshire, the county of Somerset attracts hunters of various nationalities from April onwards. Connoisseurs know that the south of England offers the best chance of getting a prime buck without needing very deep pockets. In short: strong, heavy roebucks are still affordable here.

Hunting area
Our partner is one of the best-known hunting guides in the United Kingdom. For decades, he has dedicated his life to managing an exclusive 4,000-hectare roe deer hunting ground. His team of stalkers are all experienced professionals with a knowledge of wildlife and nature that you rarely see in most other countries.
Because of this, don’t expect to chase just any roebuck during an outing. Quality comes before quantity. Thanks to careful management antlers reach their full growth potential. Superior pearled racks of 350 grams and more, often awarded with medals.
Gamekeepers and stalkers are always busy making preparations in the field all year round to give you the very best experience. They sow so you can harvest.
Hunting season
Hunting takes place from 1 April to mid-May. Then comes the highlight of roebuck hunting in the summer with the annual rut from 20 July to 10 August.
During the summer months, the southern counties of England are truly stunning. Grasslands are then covered with a carpet of wild flowers which gives a special dimension to the stalking experience. Historic villages, thatched cottages and authentic pubs add to the overall charm of the region.
English stalkers are keen professionals. You will agree when you see these people at work. Each and every one of them is a true master of their craft. Together with the quality of the hunt and the beautiful trophies, they make stalking in Somerset an experience not to be missed. This is hunting at its finest.
Travel details
From London Heathrow, it is another 180 km to Somerset. On request, we will arrange for you to be picked up at the airport. A second option is to drive yourself in the comfort of your own car. In between outings, this will give you the opportunity to discover the surrounding area and sights.
A suitable day to arrive would be Sunday, as there is no hunting then. That evening, your host will have a hot meal ready. This is a good time to get to know each other and discuss the plan for the coming days. The next day, we get up early for the first outing. The hunt is on!
In our experience, we have found that three hunting days are sufficient. If you are going for multiple top trophies, we recommend you to book an extra day. Those who prefer to skip the hassle of travelling with a gun can rent a rifle, including scope and suppressor.
You will spend the night in a charming B&B. Finally, to fully immerse yourself in the English atmosphere, visit a cosy pub after the hunt to exchange stories and raise glasses together to a successful stalk.
