Although they are becoming increasingly scarce, there are still hunting grounds that make an unforgettable impression from the very first moment. Where you immediately feel that something special is going on. The same overwhelming effect that Africa has. Only in Europe.
Where you are amazed by the beauty of nature and a lucky coincidence produces exceptional trophies and a wildlife that makes your head spin.
In the north-east of Croatia there’s a wild patchwork of reeds, plains, forests and meadows. With the highest chance of finding a majestic stag.
Organisation, nature, guidance and accommodation – everything here is of the highest level. Just like the game that is present. That comes at a price, but it is worth it.
You will be hunting in one of Europe’s top regions for red deer. Where one surprise surpasses another. This is something you have to see with your own eyes.

Hunting area
The history of this hunting area goes back to the 17th century. In 1696, as thanks for driving out the Turks under his command, General Eugenius of Savoy received a large number of lands from the Habsburg monarchy. This included this hunting ground of 27,000 hectares bordering on Serbia.
No less than 180 male deer are included in the shooting plan each year. On average, fifty of them are awarded with a medal. This is partly due to the mighty River Danube, which flows like a natural land border between Croatia and Serbia.
In case of heavy rainfall in Austria or Hungary, the Danube overflows its banks here and a quarter of the hunting area is temporarily flooded. The water, rich in minerals, not only stimulates the growth of antlers but also provides an abundant supply of food.
Hunting season
Do not fixate on the rutting calendar in Poland. In Oshiek, the battle for the hinds starts as early as the beginning of September. The eight-man staff then do everything in their power to guide hunters to the rutting grounds. And they do so with the highest success rate.
Until October, the largest stags with antler weights of 6-7 kg or more are targeted, followed by culling stags until 15 January. Hunting for hinds and calves continues for an additional month until 15 February.
Travel details
To travel quickly and pleasantly to Croatia, flying is the best option. Hunters who travel with their own rifle should choose a company that is familiar with this, such as KLM. If we can help you, we will of course be glad to do so.
With a direct flight you will land after 1h 50 minutes at the national airport of Zagreb where you will be warmly welcomed by our Croatian partner. In a comfortable 4×4 all-terrain vehicle, there is another two-hour drive before you arrive at the hotel.
You will be accommodated in a quality hotel with excellent cuisine, directly at the hunting grounds. Early bookers can also rent private accommodation for a group of up to three hunters.
The arrival day is spent relaxing. Freshen up, have a drink in the lobby and after dinner maybe have a final check that all clothes and equipment are ready for the next day. The stag fever will undoubtedly have got hold of you by then.
The course of the next few days is always the same. After a cup of tea or coffee, you and your guide go out into the field at 5 am for an outing of about three hours. After such an active morning, a hearty breakfast with eggs, bacon and warm rolls will taste all the better.
Earlier than usual, you will be picked up again in the late afternoon between 3 and 4 p.m. for the evening outing. The time in between is therefore often filled with a few hours relaxing in your room or having a walk in the surrounding area.
In the morning, you usually go out stalking. In the evening, you will hunt from a high seat at the rutting meadows where the stags fight each other and the roaring sounds are heard from all sides.
This is excitement and enjoyment at the same time. After three full days of hunting, you will have a chance to bag your dream stag. Including sights to remember. Dobra kob!
