If moose hunting is a dream that you want to fulfil, come to Estonia, the moose centre of Central Europe. The Baltic state is proof that there are options other than Sweden to shoot a big bull. Indeed, there is a great chance of success in the hunt. Even the untouched, beautiful nature is almost identical to the Scandinavian wilderness.
Every year 7,000 moose are bagged in Estonia. This is a huge number for a country barely bigger than ours. This is also an excellent biotope for moose, with forested landscapes where birch trees predominate. Coniferous trees are also found in these flat areas, as are streams, small rivers, lakes and vast swamps.

Hunting area
Hunting is done both on the famous island of Saaremaa and on the mainland. Your stalker is a professional hunter who has many experience with calling bulls. When he guides 15 hunters, everyone will have seen moose and 14 will return with a massive trophy. You can embark on this adventure with confidence.
Anyone who sees an moose for the first time – this primeval animal with a shoulder height of 2 metres and a weight of at least 400 kg – will never forget the sight. In Estonia, an adventure awaits you on an impressive game species unparalleled in Europe. You are going to love it.
Hunting season
The moose hunting season is from 15 September to 15 December. Immediately from the opening until mid-October are actually the best weeks, because this is when the most bulls are harvested during the rut. If you want to experience the thrilling moment when a giant moose responds to your guide’s call and approaches to ten or twenty metres, it is best to set a date around this period.
We recommend booking at least three or preferably four full hunting days for this trip. Even if the odds are high – especially during the rut – there are some elements that give you a better hand in some outings than in others. For example, moose are much more active in cold evenings than in warmer temperatures. A second point is your own preference. When a younger bull presents itself, you can choose to give it a pass and then wait for a larger, mature bull.
Travel details
You will land in the Estonian capital Tallinn where a driver will be waiting for you. He will take you to the accommodations where you will spend the next four days. This can be a charming boutique hotel, a bed & breakfast or a bungalow.
Do not expect excessive luxury – you won’t find it in these remote regions. But you’ll have all the necessary comforts and the sanitary facilities are up to our western standards. In addition to a private toilet, each room has a shower, bath or both. In two of the three accommodations available, you can even steam off the fatigue in the sauna.
You’ll notice that the Estonians are hospitable people, not only your guide but also the local people. The food is plentiful and good with potatoes, meat and smoked fish. We’ve heard only positive things about the kitchen from our guests. Be sure to try the typical Latvian dessert Kama if it is on the menu.
