Mouflon hunting in Czech Republic

When hunters talk about mouflons, the Czech Republic is mentioned in the same breath. Often closer than Poland, a hunting country awaits with at least as much tradition.

The game population here is still in its heyday, including red deer and wild boar, as well as roe deer, chamois, sika and fallow deer. This long list is headed by a game species full of character: the mouflon.

The Czech Republic is known for its strong mouflon rams. There is no exhibition, no international trophy show where the Czech Republic does not occupy one of the top places.

The world record with 258.60 CIC points is still in Czech hands. But for hunters who prefer adventure to medals, there are also plenty of chances to shoot a nice ram.

Hunting area

In the north-west of the Czech Republic, the mouflon is still well represented. The hunting ground has a total area of 12,000 hectares. Of course without fences, demarcation or power lines. Here, you hunt in a free range are in one of the best Czech hunting grounds.

The picturesque area has a beautiful landscape with hilly terrain, extensive primeval forests and farmlands. This is the ideal biotope for the horned, wild sheep.

Our partner has been managing the mouflon herds in this region for many years. His guides know how to bring their hunting guests close to the desired ram.

Hunting season

The hunting season runs from 1 July to 31 March. The rams are at their best as of the rutting season, which begins in mid-October and can last throughout November. Hunters who want to have their trophy prepared as a shoulder mount are advised to make a reservation around this period.

The fight for the ewes is a fight to the finish as heads and horns are rammed against each other until one winner remains. Witnessing this incredible spectacle will be a memory for life.

Travel details

The guest house or luxury hotel where you will stay is within 20 minutes of the hunting grounds. The rooms are contemporary and comfortably furnished. Each hunter has a private toilet and bathroom. There is also a restaurant with a varied menu and a cosy lounge. After the hunt, it is good to stay here.

Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by your guide. In the cosy bar, you will get a clear idea of the programme for the coming hunting days, such as the time when you’ll be picked up in the morning, when the afternoon outing begins and other important things. After reviewing your hunting license, European Firearms Pass and insurance, it is time to go into the hunting ground.

For the next four days, you’ll start hunting from an hour before sunrise to about 9 am. Afterwards, a delicious breakfast awaits you, during which the impressions and sights of the morning will be recalled. Because mouflons are also active during the day, the next outing is already planned for the afternoon. A final morning outing on the day of departure is still possible, but in practice rarely necessary.
