On the border with Germany and Poland lies a country that is not inferior to these two as a hunting nation. With mouflon and sika deer, the smaller Czech Republic even has two special wildlife trump cards.
But other species such as fallow deer, red deer and wild boar also abound in the Czech countryside. Close to Prague, in the region of Central Bohemia, there is a hunting ground where you can hunt most of these big game species in a particularly beautiful natural setting.
The hunting ground towers above the landscape like a castle. The large hoof prints in the forest reveal which game species are best represented here. Red deer are a resident species in this area, and you can see herds of them everywhere.

Hunting area
No local mediation by an agency or hunting club. You hunt in a private hunting ground and are in direct contact with the owner. Both he and his wife speak flawless English. This facilitates communication during the outings, and it is also helpful that good conversation is possible after the hunt.
The host, Vojta, is committed to and familiar with his territory. Big game have everything they need: cover, water, food and open spaces. Vojta takes care of the feeding places, the salt stones and replenishes the hay as much as possible himself. He knows every stone and stump. The same applies to the tracks and daily positions of the red deer – knowledge that will benefit you and your chances.
Hunting season
From September onwards, the battle of the stags breaks out. Then the roaring echoes through the rutting valley, audible from the hunting lodge. Whether you are stalking or hunting from the high seat, you will experience this mighty spectacle from the front row.
Every year, six stags are harvested in this top hunting area. The varied, hilly nature is worth a visit in itself. Now you have the chance to experience the highlight of deer hunting, alone or with a few friends.
Travel details
You can drive as well but Prague airport is only 20 minutes from the hunting ground. Your host will be happy to pick you up here and take you back to the airport after the hunt.
A second plus point is the proximity of the hotel. These cosy accommodations with a steakhouse are almost within walking distance of the hunting lodge. Every morning and evening outing starts from the hunting lodge.
The table is also set here and the hostess knows more than her way around the kitchen. As your own private chef, she puts the most delicious game dishes on the table. You will also get to know some Czech specialities.
The next three days follow the same pattern. Before sunrise, you’ll go hunting until about 9 o’clock, after which breakfast will be ready for you. In the late afternoon, you will prepare once again for the evening outing.
Between hunts, you can rest or explore the area, which in this case is definitely worthwhile. After all, the Czech capital Prague with all its sights is only 20 minutes away. The imposing Karlštejn Castle might even be closer.
After three full days of hunting, you’ll go out one more time in the morning for the final outing. Then it is time to get ready for the journey home. Four days should be enough to have Diana throw a smile at you.
